“What a day!” Now there’s a curious expression, isn’t it? “What a day” could mean the most difficult day of the year. The car wouldn’t start… work was a catastrophe… I spilled coffee on my lap… the kids are acting like ruffians… I burned dinner and forgot to make the house payment. Are you kidding me? The dog just threw up on the rug. You know, one of THOSE days that we all have from time to time. “What a day!”
But, “What a day!” could also mean this is the best day of the year! The wedding was glorious! The weather was perfect for our family reunion! I’m staring right down Main Street USA at Cinderella’s Castle! I am holding my newborn grandchild! I never thought that promotion was coming! YOU HAVE JUST WON THE PUBLISHERS CLEARING HOUSE GRAND PRIZE! “What a day!” Yeah… “What a day!” always depends upon your circumstances.
As I have spent time working on messages for the next couple of weeks for our series The Hope Of Jesus Coming Back, I have been pondering the wonderful proclamation of “What a day!” as it would be attributed to the return of Jesus. And again, it will all depend upon one’s circumstances. It will either be the very best day possible… or it will be the worst day that could ever be imagined. The difference between the two will be if you are a redeemed Child of God. But, O for the Redeemed… What a day!
Years ago, the Christian artist Phil Keaggy wrote a song called… yep, you guessed it… called, What A Day. He sings… When I get Home I will see all the holy men I read about. Peter and John, James, Luke, and Paul… And brother Tom without a doubt. And I do believe there will be
King David at the harp a song of praise with every chord. What a sight to see, the redeemed and the angels gathered round worshiping the Lord. What a day that will be! Oh what a day that will be!
When we get Home, our Eternal Home — There’ll be no more sick and dying. No one is sad, no one is alone and there will be no more crying. He will wipe away every tear from His children’s eyes, and put a smile upon their faces. What a happy day when we see our Lord in Paradise! Crowned as King of Kings! What a day that will be! Oh what a day that will be! Yes! What! A! Day!
Today we are going to begin to dig a bit into that day that awaits every follower of Jesus… the day where we will be reunited with him — FOREVER! The curse of sin — cast off. The blessing of Eternal life — realized. The body — glorified. Loved ones — reunited. No more crying, death or disappointment and it will all happen within the very blink of an eye. What a day!
