I just love it when you are driving along out in the countryside somewhere, and suddenly you come across a ROAD CLOSED sign. Perhaps it is my adventurous spirit (certainly it has nothing to do with a rebellious heart), that I also want to continue on and see if the road really is closed. You know what? Sometimes, it’s not actually closed. Maybe some work is being done, or someone forgot to take down the sign… but sometimes… I can drive right on thru. Of course, usually, I have to execute a U Turn… No one likes roadblocks.
Has anyone ever thrown up a roadblock in front of you when have tried to share the message of Jesus? Here are a few that I have experienced. Someone isn’t interested in hearing about Jesus, because they have had so much pain in their life and they don’t want to trust God. How about someone who has been deeply wounded by some person who professes to be a Christian, and so that someone equates a persons lack of love to somehow represent God’s. I have had someone tell me, “I don’t need you to tell me how to live my life!” One person actually told me once that they had prayed over a dozen times for Jesus to appear to them and prove that He is real… and when He didn’t, they stopped believing.
It can be discouraging when someone throws up a roadblock in front of you when you are trying to represent Jesus, but just because we experience a ROAD CLOSED every once in a while is no excuse to stop trying. You know, if we remain faithful to sharing the hope that we have in Jesus, sometimes… the road will be open. Perhaps some work is being done in that heart, or they forgot to take down their “Road Closed” sign, but sometimes God has prepared a heart to be open and ready to receive.
You are going to hear about an opportunity today where you can take an active role in helping others experience Jesus and respond to His call upon their life. Perhaps you will want to be part of that, or perhaps, you can just pledge to renew your desire to look for opportunities to share the message of Jesus. But one thing is for certain, we ALL have a part in the mission of sharing the Gospel of Jesus with others. Wanna join me in bypassing a few ROAD CLOSED signs?
