Well, this year the McKnight family garden will be going to all raised beds. I gotta admit, while I enjoy gardening, I HATE weeding — and my hope is that my raised beds will significantly curtail those pesky little buggers. I have watched lots of videos on raised bed gardening to prepare myself, and for the last week I have been building garden beds.
I am grateful for having a shop and for all the tools that I have accrued over the years, because having the right tools for a project like this is essential. Fortunately, the building process went pretty quickly, and over the next few days I hope to begin installing them in our garden.
As I used the tools in my shop to build those garden beds, I was reminded of one of the most essential tools that God has given his people to strengthen their faith — the Bible. Have you ever had to accomplish a project or job and you really weren’t sure what you were doing? I have attempted more than my share of those, and it can be pretty frustrating to seek to muddle through a project without the proper knowledge. On more than one occasion I have essentially done something three times, because I had to keep correcting what I had done wrong.
God, in his wisdom and benevolence, gifted us with his holy word for the purpose of guiding us to understand his will for our life. In your Christian life tool box, God’s word is just behind the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in importance to your life. In fact, the Holy Spirit desires to use the Bible to effect life change in your life by making it living and active in your faith development (Heb. 4:12).
I hope you value God’s word in your life. We value something when whatever it is commands our attention and time. I want to encourage you to make reading and studying God’s word a priority in your life, because it contains the very words of God — written to you.
For our time this morning of Ask Anything, we received many questions about faith, the Christian life and how to live God-honoring lives, and I am so grateful that we have the Bible to get answers. Today, we will seek to answer every question by delving into scripture. Hopefully any “advice” given will be directly from the words of God. Trust me, you really don’t want to take the advice of someone who once installed a starter solenoid on a boat engine three times because he kept doing it wrong. (Why won’t this thing START? Ahhhh!) Yeah… let’s trust God’s word instead.
