November 20, 2022

November 20, 2022 By Steve McKnight Leave a Comment

Did you know that last Tuesday became a significant day in Human history?  According to the United Nations, on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 the world population surpassed eight billion people.  Eight billon people means that the world population has more than doubled since 1965.

Grab this… eight billion seconds ago was the year 1779.  Our country was a whopping 3 years old!  How about eight billion minutes ago?  That would be the year 12,800… BC!  Eight billion is a BIG number.

Eight billion people means eight billion souls. Eight billion souls created in the image of God.  Eight billion souls born to know God; born for the purpose of bringing him glory.  God spoke through David to write, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb… Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”  Psalm 139:13,16  God has a plan for every life… and he has created every life with purpose.

If you are a follower of Jesus, you have a distinct calling that is directly related to eight billion people… you are called to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with as many of them as possible.  Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations…” Matthew 28:19  Believe me, I get it… that is a daunting task.  How can we possibly share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with EIGHT BILLION PEOPLE?  And the answer is that we do it together… each redeemed person… making their best effort… to see that eight billion people know that Jesus is the Savior of the World.

So, each of us ought to tell The Story as often as possible.  The Story of God becoming human so that he could rescue humanity from the consequences of sin. The Story of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.  Our role in telling The Story is to give people the opportunity to decide for themselves if they would follow Jesus.

Each of us ought to do our best to support others who leave their home and culture to take The Story to those who have never heard it in another culture.  “All nations” is part of Jesus’ mandate to his followers.   By supporting The Great Commission Fund at Christian Alliance Church, you are helping missionaries go and share the love of Jesus Christ.  All funds designated to The Great Commission Fund go directly to the Alliance’s worldwide work of telling The Story, and a significant portion of that supports our very own Kyle and Caitlin.

Each of us ought to pray.  Prayer is powerful and effective… somehow… and I don’t claim to fully understand this… prayer moves the heart of God.  When we pray, we have God’s full attention.  Pray that The Story is told and received.  Pray for boldness and safety.  Pray for souls to be won for Christ.  And while you pray… remember Kyle, Caitlin and Rowan too… because THEY are part of US.

Yes, eight billion is a big number… but not this big… “After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” Revelation 7 A worship service in Heaven.  How many of that “multitude that no one could count” will have heard The Story… from you?
