What do you get excited about? What brings you the most joy? Family… adventure… friendship… a hobby… being present with someone you love… your relationship with Jesus? These are all things that bring me joy. Many might attest these are things that make life worth living. Joy is a deep satisfied state of mind and heart. Joy is exciting and fulfilling. Can “joy” ever be wrong? Yes. The picture below is an example of evil joy.
I hesitated to even put this picture in our church bulletin. If you have not seen it yet, this is a picture of Governor Maura Healey of Massachusetts signing a law allowing for a mother to abort her baby right up until the moment of birth. The women surrounding her are responding in joyful celebration that a woman in Massachusetts can now abort a baby even as late as when she enters labor.
Folks, this is evil being displayed right before our eyes. Evil no longer hides in the shadows — lurking in absentia, so that it will not be discovered and averted. It not only is displayed openly… it is actually celebrated. May these women seek God’s forgiveness… and may He have mercy on their souls.
I have a difficult time accepting that even the average person who is pro-abortion would support removing and killing a baby from the mother’s womb just, perhaps, the day before she would give birth. A fully developed baby. Kill a baby one minute after birth and it is murder… kill it one minute before birth, and it is reproductive health care. “God in Heaven — what has our world become?”
The Apostle Paul gives a frightful warning for those who flaunt sin. “Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.” Romans 1:28-32 NIV
Those words accurately describe our world today. Evil is celebrated. Sin is flaunted. God is mocked. And the end is near. I pray that Governor Healey repents of this action because her place in Hell will be horrible. I do not say that with any satisfaction or joy — I would not wish Hell on anyone. I pray that these women would experience conviction over the joy they feel over something so horrific. But I fear repentance is unlikely… perhaps God has given them over to a depraved mind.
“Dear God, protect the unborn. Move in the hearts of women and men to protect the innocent and not bring them harm. We know that every person is created by you with purpose… to know you… to serve you… to bring glory to you. Forgive our world for our barbarism, even as you lead your people to speak truth, through love, about the sanctity of life. Welcome those children who never have a chance to grow up into your loving arms. Amen.”
