On Wednesday night we had a Color Wars Event in Children’s Ministry. Color Wars is an obstacle course and team event that involves throwing powdered paint on the participants. And believe me, judging from the adults who participated, you don’t have to be a kid to have fun with it! And boy, there was powdered paint dust – everywhere! It moved like a cloud across the church parking lot and over the cornfields. I wondered what some of the folks thought who were driving by – fortunately we were not so much of a driver distraction to cause an accident 🙂
After the teams had completed the obstacle course portion of the event, I decided that I should give it a try. So there I was, running through a course designed for the size of a 10 year old, getting doused with powdered paint. Some of our kids (and adults) are MEAN! They hammered me! Just kidding, it was all in good fun.
Let me tell you, after that deluge – I was ready for the shower! And guess what? All of that paint just washed right away. I entered the shower totally covered in grime and exited washed completely clean. And I must say, I looked like a totally new and different person.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says… “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” You know, because of Jesus’ death and sacrifice on the cross and his victory over death and sin by walking out of the tomb on that first Easter Sunday, we can all be washed clean from the brokenness of sin in our life.
I am so grateful that God washed the crud away and gave me a new life… all because of who Jesus is and what he has done for me. And if it took a little bit of paint to remind me of that this week… well… it was worth it! “Lord, thank you. Thank you for forgiveness. Thank you for loving me when I was not very lovable. Thank you for washing me clean and making me new!”
