Well one of our bathrooms received an overhaul this week. Even though it was functional — it really needed an update. I mean aqua colored fake marble in a sea shell shape might have been all of the rage in the 90’s, but not so much now. And… whoever designed/built the vanity must have been about 5’1” because that sink was short! No offense to short people… but no one in my house is under 5’8”!
So, new paint, a brand new vinyl floor laminate, new vanity, sink and faucet and that bathroom looks completely fresh and new. No one would ever know it was birthed in 1992. It is amazing what you can do in a day when you put your mind to it.
As I worked on the bathroom, I was reminded of the overhaul God has been doing in my life over the last 35 years or so. It has taken God a bit longer to restore my heart than it did for me to do our bathroom, but to be fair… my heart was a bit more of a mess than that old bathroom.
God had to work though selfishness, stubbornness, rebellion and an overall attitude of self-centeredness so many times in my life. I am grateful for the promise, The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. Psalm 103:8 (NLT) I am thankful for the patient persistence of God’s working in my life, and for the fact that He has never given up on me.
David wrote of the Lord, He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Psalm 23:3 (NKJV) Today I am grateful for a restored soul. Other translations use words like renews, refreshes and new strength, but I like restored. Restored reminds me of an old building restored to its former glory… a classic car restored to its wonderful beauty. A broken soul restored to its relationship with its Lord — once corrupted, but now made beautiful.
So, today, take a bit of time to reflect on the restoration that God has done and still continues to do in your heart. May your heart stay soft and moldable in the Creator God’s hands, and may He fashion you into whatever is most pleasing to Him… so that you may bring Him much glory!
