This past Wednesday was the first day of Spring, and man, am I ready for Spring! I would imagine most of you share that same sentiment with me. Winter is long, cold and dark. Spring is amazing, especially in cold weather areas like Ohio — because the transformation is so startling.
To me, Winter is like looking at a black and white photograph in a museum. Everything is just different shades of gray, black or white, but then when Spring arrives it looks like I have just wandered into the Impressionist section of the museum. Bam! There is a Monet Water Lilies painting exploding before my eyes!
The shades of green in the trees… the deepening color of the lawn… the colorful splash of flowers… the shimmer of water on the lake… the contrast between the rich brown loam of the fields with the sprigs of new green crop growth… even now as I imagine the scenes it takes me to a happy place! The wind on my face that doesn’t peel off my skin… the soft blue of the sky against the backdrop of trees showing off their new foliage. Come on Spring! Spring means new life! Spring means a fresh new beginning! Spring brings the promise of Summer!
And Spring reminds me of the new life I have in Jesus. The Apostle Paul wrote, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV. Today, you and I are living in the Spring of our new life in Jesus Christ! The darkness of a Winter heart has been replaced with a vibrant heart bursting with New Life! A heart carefully cultivated by the Creator Himself to reflect His glory. That which was dead… has now been made alive! And folks, summer is coming! It’s just over the horizon. And the summer of Heaven will never transition to the Fall which leads to the Darkness of Winter, ever again. Thank you, Jesus! Thank you for New Life! Thank you for the promise of Heaven. Thank you for Spring!
