Happy Mother’s Day! The day we refuse to let Mom cook (or at least you better not let her cook). The day we reflect on the blessings received from mothers — and they are many. I have three “moms” in my life. My mom, my mother-in-law and my wife and they all share the same quality — selflessness. In the “moms” of my life, I have been provided excellent examples of what it truly looks like to place the needs of others over your own. I am reminded of the quote from the movie The Christmas Story — Ralphie: “My mother had not had a hot meal for herself in 15 years.” I appreciate all that moms do and the sacrifices they make!
At the same time, Mother’s Day can be difficult for some. Perhaps a mother has recently passed away… perhaps motherhood hasn’t been an option for you… or perhaps even, mom just wasn’t what you had hoped she would be. If that is the case for you, may God grant you peace and comfort. While we don’t always understand God’s working in and around our lives, we can be assured that he loves us and has good plans for us.
Solomon writes: Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. Proverbs 1:8-9 Moms can certainly provide great wisdom, and they help us learn to adorn ourselves with quality character and principles.
So here is to all the moms who are teachers, counselors, cheerleaders, nurses, referees, tutors, coaches, waitresses, maids, cooks and best friends. What you do for your family is beyond measure, weight or remuneration. Thank you! And I hope you don’t have to cook today!
