I just love a good zoo! Some of my favorites are The San Diego Zoo and the Cleveland Zoo — and if you ever have the chance to take the safari ride at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom — Do it! It truly feels like you are on an African safari adventure as you wind around through a Savannah-like setting in a roofless truck. When we lived in the Cleveland area we could visit the zoo free every Monday, and Lauri and I liked to do that from time to time on my Monday days off.
I’m not a fan of house-cats but I really enjoy the big cats of every zoo. Giraffes are cool too… even if Barney Fife thinks they are selfish… have you seen that Andy Griffith episode? Just go to Youtube and type “Andy Griffith Giraffes are selfish” in the search bar and you can watch that little gem:) Now Pastor Bart, he loves those Rhinos…
My favorite animals at the zoo are the wolves. Maybe it is partly because I really enjoy dogs, but I love the wolves. At the Cleveland Zoo There is a large habitat area dedicated to Grey Wolves. Wolves are big, powerful, stealthy and apex predators. What I love most about wolves is that they are pack animals. The pack is usually made up of the alpha male and female who are life-long breeding mates and then mostly of their adolescent offspring.
The pack is everything to the wolf. Safety, shelter, family, food and identity. And the pack can be deadly too… a wolf pack can bring down a 2000 pound bull moose because they coordinate their attack. There is great power in the Pack.
Today, our subject matter is the Essential Living purpose of GROW TOGETHER. When I think of the power of the Wolf Pack, I can’t help but think of the power found in the community of the local church. Christian fellowship encourages us into deeper faith in Jesus and helps us to love others more effectively. When we GROW TOGETHER we are better.
I love this challenge: “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” Hebrews 10:24 Yes! The power of the Pack! And there isn’t a Pack that I want to run with any more than Christian Alliance Church folks. I certainly want to avoid giraffes… because… you know… they are sooooo selfish.
