Someone recently asked me, “Why are all the crosses in front of your church?” Perhaps if you are newer to our church you have wondered the same thing.
Those crosses are placed there each year by our youth ministry in memory of babies that have been aborted. They are a visual reminder of the desperate need to protect the unborn.
Psalm 139 declares, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139:13-16 NIV
Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit David believed that God intentionally created each person, and that he created each person with purpose. “All the days ordained for me…” means that God has purpose for each person he knits in the womb.
The Apostle Paul wrote, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 NLT The implication is clear; we are created anew in Christ to do “the good things he planned for us to do. That is the purpose behind why God created you.
I know the issue of abortion/pro life is an explosive topic in our society today. People on both sides of the aisle are passionate about their beliefs. Sometimes taking a stand on social issues
will come at a cost, but if we have a conviction from the Holy Spirit we must be responsive. I am also aware that many have deep wounds over this issue too. If that is you, we are here to help, not judge.
Proverbs tells us, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.” Proverbs 31:8-9 NLT
On November 7 we have an opportunity to “speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves” by voting “no” on Issue 1.
Issue 1 has been funded from outside pro-abortion interest groups that desire to remove most limitations for abortions in the state of Ohio.
Voting “no” on Issue 1 allows our state legislature to maintain its checks on this practice. If you would like to learn more about Issue 1 and how you can be part of the movement to protect the unborn, an informational meeting is being held following this Sunday’s service at our 224 location. I encourage you to attend.
